Beside releasing the Redsn0w 0.9.10b1, iPhone dev team has also released PwnageTool PwnageTool 5.0.1 that is fully supporting iOS 5.0.1. With PwnageTool you are not going to be able to untether jailbreak your iOS device, but also be able creating .iPSW file and keep your baseband saved.

Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 using PwnageTool 5.0.1

1. Download iOS 5.0.1.

2. Download PwnageTool 5.0.1

3. Open PwnageTool.

4. Now select “Browse for iPSW” in the Expert Mode, and continue the step by selecting the regular iOS 5.0.1 firmware

5. Choose “General”.

6. Uncheck “Activate the Phone”, or leave it be, if you don’t own official SIM card.

7. Hit on the back button, and then click on “Build”.
8. Now place the customized iPSW file to your chosen place.
9. Once the custome iOS firmware is made, put the device of your into DFU mode.
10. Use iTunes restore the custom iPSW file within your device, when you have your phone in DFU mode.
11. When iTunes has finished restoring, Cydia icon will be appearing on your springboard. Launch Cydia, and continue with installing Ultrasn0w in order for unlocking your device.

A hacker named Nadeem Ateyeh announced via his recent tweet that he has released PwnageTool Bundle to jailbreak iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS running on iOS 4.2.1. This tool can be used to create a custom firmware iPSW files and maintain your baseband, which mean you can unlock your phone with Ultrasn0w afterward.

1. So to start jailbreak your phone 4 and 3GS using PwnageTool, you need to firstly download the bundle package here. Then extract the zip files.

2. And then download the PwnageTool 4.1.3 from this link, then copy and paste it into your desktop. Click the “Show Package Contents” by right clicking on the file. See the image below:

3. Now open: Contents/Resources/FirmwareBundles/ and then paste the following files there, the files inside the PwnageTool Bundle you downloaded earlier, paste according your device mode:

• Paste iPhone3,1_4.2.1_8C148.bundle for iPhone 4,
• Paste iPhone2,1_4.2.1_8C148a.bundle for iPhone 3GS in this location.

4. And then open: Contents/Resources/CustomPackages/CydiaInstaller.bundle/ and then copy the info.plist file afterward close the folder.

5. Download the iOS 4.2.1 for iPhone. Put this IPSW file to your desktop.

6. Launch PwnageTool in “Expert mode” , then choose your device:

8: Before we continue to create-the-bundle process, you need to firstly “Activate the Phone” option is unchecked under “General”, and “Cydia Installer” package is selected under “Cydia Packages” option. After you finished with that, now choose “Build” in order to create custom 4.2.1 firmware file:

9. Now it’s time for Pwnagetool to create a custom.ipsw file for your device. Then, it will prompt you to save custom .ipsw firmware file. Then save the file to your desktop. It is going to take about 10-15 minutes for creating the firmware file, therefore waiting in patient!

10. Now put your device into DFU mode, to do so, hold Power and Home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds. Then release the Power button while your finger still holding the Home button for another 10 seconds. If it’s done correctly, your device should be into DFU mode and the message will appear as notification:

11. Open iTunes, then hold the Alt/Option key for Mac, and hold Left “Shift” key for Windows. And continue the process by clicking Restore.

12. Now select the custom IPSW that was created and click the Choose button. Wait for a while till iTunes updates the new firmware on your iPhone. After the installation is done, iPhone will restart automatically.

13. Now pick the custom IPSW which we have created and then click the choose button there. Then, let iTunes do its job to update to the new firmware for your iPhone. When the update process is finish, your device will be restarted automatically, then you will find that you have jailbroken iPhone 4, or 3GS running on iOS 4.1 using PwnageTool.

Now you can unlock your iPhone using Ultrasn0w 1.2 so you can use any carrier you like!

Previously I informed about jailbreak your iPhone 4 running on iOS 4.3 using the unofficial PwnageTool, the guide there will update your old baseband. But in case the you didn’t make it, and failed to jailbreak your iDevice using the guide. You can use the new released of PwnageTool bundles.

But since you are going to jailbreak the iOS firmware who is still in beta stage, means you must be one of the iPhone developer standard member and have a Mac. If you have met the requirements, you can follow the guide below. But firstly remember the instructions are not too easy to follow, there is a phase of which requires you to modify the restore Ramdisk manually. Therefore, no one will be responsible if you brick your device, do it at your own risk.

Read these first:

• According to report Cydia works on iOS 4.3 Beta.
• Semi-tethered jailbreak.
• During restore process your baseband won’t be upgraded.
• Use a utility like tetheredboot to boot into tethered mode.
• Don’t run Cydia, after you have booted untethered, or else you will make MobileSafari and other apps crash

Now do the following:

1. Download the custom PwnageTool bundle from iPhone-Privacy page.
2. Follow the guides written from this page, in order to modify PwnageTool using the bundle to accept iOS 4.3 beta firmware,

Instructions to make your ramdisk can be found below:

Tools needed: OS X, xpwntool

• Unpack the original ramdisk: xpwntool orig_restore_rd.dmg restore_rd.dec.dmg -iv .. -k .. (use the keys from wiki)
• Mount the ramdisk: hdiutil attach restore_rd.dec.dmg
• Free up some space: rm /Volumes/ramdisk/(some unneeded large-ish file)
• Patch asr: mv /Volumes/ramdisk/usr/sbin/asr /tmp/; bspatch /tmp/asr /Volumes/ramdisk/usr/sbin/asr (bundle_path)/asr.patch
• Change the restore options: edit /Volumes/ramdisk/usr/local/share/restore/options.plist with Property List Editor, add ‘UpdateBaseband’ = false – see http://theiphonewiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Preventing_Baseband_Update for details
• Unmount the ramdisk: hdiutil detach /Volumes/ramdisk
• Re-encrypt the ramdisk: xpwntool restore_rd.dec.dmg pwned_restore_rd.dmg -t orig_restore_rd.dmg -iv .. -k ..
• Replace the ramdisk inside of CFW produced by the Pwnage Tool with pwned_restore_rd.dmg You can either unzip and re-zip the CFW or replace it inside of /tmp/ipsw dir when PwnageTool is running.

There is jailbreak Apple TV 2G running on iOS 4.2.1 using PwnageTool instructions spread out on the net now, however these instructions for tethered jailbreak only which will make some people halted to jailbreak their Apple TV 2G because of it and decided to wait for the a un-tethered boot jailbreak release. A Bug fix version of PwnageTool to fix the problems found on the previous version (PwnageTool 4.1 for Mac) released today by iPhone Dev Team, which is PwnageTool 4.1.1 and it is also available to download. Read the following note:

[Update: Version 4.1.1 should fix any issues that OS X 10.5.x users were seeing. You only need to run this version if you’re at OS X 10.5.x and were seeing Cydia errors] source: iPhone Dev Team.

So in other words if didn’t find any problems with the previous PwangeTool version, then no need to use this version, because you are just fine.

Note for the unlockers: do not let iTunes to restore to the official IPSW, doing so, you will lose the unlock ability and this is one way direction, there is no turning back. If you wish to restore the IPSW, do it by using Option-Restore, not just the Restore button by itself. And then move to custom IPSW, don’t go to the stock one.

Or let’s say you accidentally started the official IPSW restoration, then immediately unplug your iPhone before it’s moving to the “Updating Firmware” step.

Go to:

• Then you can continue to jailbreak iOS 4.1 with PwnageTool 4.1 for iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G

You can now jailbreak iPhone 3GS with iOS 4.0.1 running using PwnageTool bundle. Then able to create custom firmware files with the existing PwnageTool version. The reason most people like using bundle because it is supporting hacktivation also ultrasn0w unlock but unfortunately it can be used only for iPhone 3GS old bootrom (check your bootrom version for Windows and Mac)

First Steps Before Going To On “How to Jailbreak iPhone 3GS With PwnageTool”

1. Create a new folder on your desktop and name it “Pwnage”. Inside the folder you have to put the PwnageTool 3.1.4 and 3.1.2 iPhone firmware 3.1.2 (3GS), download: iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw

I recommend using Firefox to download IPSW file, as Safari will usually do auto extracts the file
