Again! Another Android update, this time for Nexus ONe. The device is awarded with Android 2.2.2, the reason behind the update is same as the found in Nexus S which is to fix the SMS bug which caused troubles for some people. And the 2.2.2 is marked FRG83G with 550 KB in size.

To get the update you can go into two methods, firstly by OTA (Over The Air) to get the notification update on your device, to do so you manually type this line of code *#*#checkin#*#*

Or download the file directly from Google servers, afterward manually install it on your device, here are the guides:

• Download the update file from Google’s server: FRG83G-from-FRG83D
• Copy the file to the root directory (remember on root directly, Not inside any folder) of your microSD card and name it update.zip Tip: Be careful not to name it update.zip.zip
• Turn your device off.
• Hold down the VOLUME DOWN button and power it back on.
• Wait for your phone to load the skating Androids screen. Scroll down to recovery and press the POWER button.
• When you see the “/!\” symbol, press the POWER button and the VOLUME UP button at the same time. You should be presented with a menu and one of the options should be “apply sdcard:update.zip”.
• Use the trackball to navigate to “apply sdcard:update.zip” and select it.
• When you see “Install from sdcard complete”, select “reboot system now”.

That’s the whole steps to manually install Android 2.2.2 on the Nexus One.

Andi Rubin, the creator of Android, wrote on Google Official Blog, that Google will be stopping selling Nexus One via their web store for US market. As the return, Google will make partnership with retailers to offer Nexus availability at retails channels.

This decision is based on “that most of purchasers are not ready to purchase something without having a hands-on experience first!” Thus as the result, Nexus One sold rather poorly

So as the follow up Google will be working to create the HTC-built Nexus One that will run on Android 2.1 OS that available at wireless carriers retail channels and also in the united States and other countries

And if the decision gain success then Google is planned to shift their Web Store to be Android phones’s online showcase for information on a wide range of available Android handsets

Note: According Flurry Analytics that Nexus One was sold around 135,000 units in 75 days at March, the same 74 days for iPhone to reach a million sales!

A Youtube user named AndroidHD launched a comparing video between Nexus One uses Android 2.1 against Motorola Milestone (Droid) that uses Android 2.0.1 to display Google Earth, which one displays best and faster. Accordin AndroidHD, Nexus One is way faster than Milestone, when they both launch Google Earth Application

You would probably think that it’s because Nexus One uses the newest version of Android OS, which is more powerful and high. It’s not really true according AndroidHD, he tends to think that’s because Nexus One is Google product, therefore it’s optimized to match and run other Google products, not just faster, with Nexus One the Google Eart App is running more smooth, albeit Droid doesn’t fair bad either

You would probably want to enable Tethering on Google Nexus One, because unable to purchase expensive internet connection and need to use internet in the non WIFI signal area

Enabling tethering on Google Nexus One is not difficult, in fact, it’s an easy trip, but the problem is there are steps you need to fulfill before start to enable internet tethering on Nexus One, which are:

• Root Google Nexus One on Android 2.1
• Unlock Google Nexus One Bootloader

1. You need to download Nexus One Addon 0.1 now and flash it over the existing firmware, and it’s recommend not to wipe the data partition!

2. The last step is download wired_tether_1_0.apk and once it’s downloaded, you need to install it on your phone.

3. It’s done

If the above steps are completed correctly then you will have wired tethering on your Nexus One.

Google Nexus One Phone is rooted already albeit it has not officially released for public usage, a guy named Paul from Modaco forums was able to root his Nexus One successfully, with Android 2.1 version running on his device. He named his rooting technique as Superboot and he also posted the technique for anyone to follow

First off, why you need to root your Google phone? Because by it you will have full access to the file system on Nexus One, as the result you will be able to modify the phone’s firmware to have anything you desire such as applications, themes and custom ROMs just like having a Jailbroken iPhone in your hand

You are free to follow the steps below to root your Google Nexus One Phone, but remember apply these steps at your own risk! We are not responsible for any unwanted effect caused by these steps

How to use Superboot To Root Google Nexus One On Android 2.1- Windows, OSX and Linux

1. Download the Superboot zip file
   above and extract to a directory
2. Put your device in Bootloader mode – Turn off the phone then press and hold the trackball to enter the bootloader
3. Your current OS:
   - For Windows – double click ‘install-superboot-windows.bat’
   - For Mac – Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type ‘chmod +x install-superboot-mac.sh’ followed by ‘./install-superboot-mac.sh’
   - For Linux – Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type ‘chmod +x install-superboot-linux.sh’ followed by ‘./install-superboot-linux.sh’

Note: If you are using a retail Nexus One, you may need to unlock the bootloader first, as detailed here.
