Previously I informed about jailbreak your iPhone 4 running on iOS 4.3 using the unofficial PwnageTool, the guide there will update your old baseband. But in case the you didn’t make it, and failed to jailbreak your iDevice using the guide. You can use the new released of PwnageTool bundles.

But since you are going to jailbreak the iOS firmware who is still in beta stage, means you must be one of the iPhone developer standard member and have a Mac. If you have met the requirements, you can follow the guide below. But firstly remember the instructions are not too easy to follow, there is a phase of which requires you to modify the restore Ramdisk manually. Therefore, no one will be responsible if you brick your device, do it at your own risk.

Read these first:

• According to report Cydia works on iOS 4.3 Beta.
• Semi-tethered jailbreak.
• During restore process your baseband won’t be upgraded.
• Use a utility like tetheredboot to boot into tethered mode.
• Don’t run Cydia, after you have booted untethered, or else you will make MobileSafari and other apps crash

Now do the following:

1. Download the custom PwnageTool bundle from iPhone-Privacy page.
2. Follow the guides written from this page, in order to modify PwnageTool using the bundle to accept iOS 4.3 beta firmware,
3. And finally visit this page for creating iOS 4.3 custom firmware for iPhone 4.

Instructions to make your ramdisk can be found below:

Tools needed: OS X, xpwntool

• Unpack the original ramdisk: xpwntool orig_restore_rd.dmg restore_rd.dec.dmg -iv .. -k .. (use the keys from wiki)
• Mount the ramdisk: hdiutil attach restore_rd.dec.dmg
• Free up some space: rm /Volumes/ramdisk/(some unneeded large-ish file)
• Patch asr: mv /Volumes/ramdisk/usr/sbin/asr /tmp/; bspatch /tmp/asr /Volumes/ramdisk/usr/sbin/asr (bundle_path)/asr.patch
• Change the restore options: edit /Volumes/ramdisk/usr/local/share/restore/options.plist with Property List Editor, add ‘UpdateBaseband’ = false – see http://theiphonewiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Preventing_Baseband_Update for details
• Unmount the ramdisk: hdiutil detach /Volumes/ramdisk
• Re-encrypt the ramdisk: xpwntool restore_rd.dec.dmg pwned_restore_rd.dmg -t orig_restore_rd.dmg -iv .. -k ..
• Replace the ramdisk inside of CFW produced by the Pwnage Tool with pwned_restore_rd.dmg You can either unzip and re-zip the CFW or replace it inside of /tmp/ipsw dir when PwnageTool is running.

If you have already upgraded your iOS to iOS 4.2.1 and jailbreaking your iDevice is in your must do list, then Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 by iPhone dev team is built for that purpose. In fact the latest Redsn0w version is released to welcome the Apple newest software update.

Unfortunately, the Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 is semi-tethered or tethered jailbreak which requires newer devices owner (iPhone 4, 3GS New Bootrom, iPad, iPod touch 3G & 4G, iPod Touch 2G Mc Model) to put into the so-called jailbreak state on every reboot.

Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 Using Redsn0w 0.9.6b4

Keep away from this instruction or iOS 4.2.1 if your device is unlock.

Step 1: Download the final version of iOS 4.2.1

Step 2: Now you have to update or restore your iOS to iOS 4.2.1 with the ipsw file you have downloaded from iTunes 10.1

Step 3: Open Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 and go to iOS 4.2.1 to begin jailbreak your device

Step 4: As usual after Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 is started, then select “Install Cydia” option and continue the process by clicking “Next” button.

Step 5: In this step before clicking “NEXT” button, turn off your device but keep it plugged into the computer. Just like what’s written in the following message:

Step 6: You need to put your device into DFU mode, the instructions to do so is holding the Power and Home button at the same time for about 10 seconds, after then release the Power button while holding the Home button for another few seconds until the installation takes place.

Step 7: Do nothing, let the Redsn0w do its job. Then your iPod touch or iPhone will do the automatic restart, afterward, you will find that you have a jailbroken iPhone (iPod touch) on iOS 4.2.1

For new iDevices only:

Since Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 is classified as tethered jailbreak or semi-tethered jailbreak, thus each time you want to do any jailbreak activities such as opening Cydia etc, you are going to firstly put your device into “jailbreak state” on every reboot using the option called “Just boot tethered right now” like in the following image:

Here is what you need to do before jailbreaking your iPhone with Sno0wbreeze:

Steps to follow:

1. Run the Sn0wBreeze and hit next button. Active Sn0wBreeze, then click on “next” button
2. Since Sn0wBreeze is still in beta, thus it’s no way to select Expert Mode, therefore in this phase select Simple Mode and then click the Next Arrow Button.
3. You will be asked for ipsw.file as iDevice, therefore go to the folder where your iPhone OS 3.1.2 ipsw file is located and select the download firmware 3.1.2
4. At this phase SnowBreeze will process to verify the selected firmware 3.1.2 file and hit next
5. And then you will be asked to active your iPhone
   1. If you select Yes button for hacktivation (for unofficial carriers)
   2. If you select No if you want to use official carrier (AT&T etc).
6. And then click “Start” for Sn0wBreeze to build custom firmware for the iPhone of yours, this process is used to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.2
7. Restore your iPhone with custome firmware that you have built using Sno0wBreeze after ipsw file building process is complete
8. Connect your iPhone to iTunes and select your iPhone from the left navigation pane in iTunes. Hold Down the SHIFT key on your keyboard and hit the Restore button (SHIFT + Restore)



9. Now the iTunes will ask for the IPSW firmware file.
   Browse to the custom firmware that you built using Sn0wBreeze and select it.
10. iTunes will Restore your iPhone with custom iPhone OS 3.1.2 created with Sn0wBreeze. Once the iTunes is done with the restore process, your iPhone will restart automatically.

First Steps Before Going To On “How to Jailbreak iPhone 3GS With PwnageTool”

1. Create a new folder on your desktop and name it “Pwnage”. Inside the folder you have to put the PwnageTool 3.1.4 and 3.1.2 iPhone firmware 3.1.2 (3GS), download: iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw
