Facebook is finally launched and unveiled what they have prepared for us, the FB users, the new messages that includes; text, chat and email altogether in one single system. Albeit, Zuckenberg keep saying their new feature is not email, but the functionality of this service similar with the general emails have, except the FB version does not have CC or BCC on the subject form – simply clicking the “enter” then your message is sent right away.

Speaking of “not email” claim from Facebook, you can have your username as the address for your account in this new feature, like yourusername@facebook.com which makes it harder to claim this service is not email. But wait up, it is just a messaging system that includes email as one part of it.

Unfortunately the service is not open for the 500 millions Facebook members yet, you need to request for the invitation first to use it. But don’t worry, it will be rolled out for public in the next few months. So Facebook has answered the circulating question on is Facebook going to launch Gmail-Killer that I posted earlier. And will you leave Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo! and migrate to @Facebook.com?

Few months a go there was a rumor about Facebook email under Project Titan, but the rumor never been actualized. Now the rumor is blown again, originally from TechCrunch who is speculating that the Facebook will launch the so-called “Gmail Killer” at the event in San Fransisco in this coming Monday.

If the speculation is true, Facebook really announce their own web based email, will people use it? We are fully satisfied with the Gmail, Yahoo or Hotmail. Do we still need another email service? Will Facebook email become a real threat to Gmail?

I never like Facebook since I knew the name for the first time, it was my niece who introduced me to this social networking site at the year of 2006, if I am not mistaken. She was excited and told me that this site is much and much better than Friendster, albeit I didn’t like Friendster either (She abandoned all her FS accounts since then and continue her social online life on Facebook till now)

Then by her support I registered on Facebook, and really didn’t find it interesting at all after spending few hours browsing around there, as for me it’s just a place for people to share (mostly) unimportant things such as “I just woke up!”, “Yummy it was a delicious breakfast” and “I feel so tired after a whole day work!” and their messages are all over my screen; crowded, floated and bloated. Don’t feel offended, for me Facebook is full of uselessness & the greatest time-waster there has ever been

Now Facebook is planning to launch full-fledged email product under Titan Project (at least it’s the name I got from here) to substitute their old messaging system. This Facebook webmail service is predicted to be facilitated with full POP or IMAP support, which means a user can access their email from anywhere outside Facebook account such as via a desktop application like Mic, Outlook

So in the future your friends might ask you to send them emails to this address: yourfriendemail@facebook.com as their new email address

But one thing that catches my attention is the Facebook call their upcoming email service to be Gmail killer? Come one FB no matter you do, you will never be as efficient than Gmail of Google.

Beside, people already have Gmail, and probably the majority of Facebook users use Gmail and feel happy with it, thus why would they switch to Facebook mail? Lol!

Currently it is better for Facebook to fix their internal problems such as make their website secure from Koobface virus, fix the chat system which has been buggy for its entire existence and make their site load faster.

To Facebook fix yourself first before start thinking to extend your scope to a whole new level.

And see you again in the next post!
