How To Unlock Hidden Regional Themes In Windows 7

[ 5 ] November 16, 2009 | Abi

Here is a simple trick to get or unlock the hidden Windows 7 themes or wallpaper to be your desktop background, as you have already known Windows 7 has various themes that are categorized according their regional countries, thus if you choose USA as main language, time and format during Windows 7 installation your default theme and wallpapers will be America scenery, so you won’t be given access to have Australia, Canada, Great Britain, and South Africa wallpapers as default themes.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Launch Windows Explorer, hit “Organize” and chose Folder and search options.
  • Head to “View Tab” to choose Show hiddern files, folders also drivers now what you need to do is uncheck HIDE PROTECTED Operating Files (yes make sure you do this)
  • click Yes if you are prompted with Confirmation (UAC).
  • Then hit OK.
  • Now go to C:\Windows\Globalization\MCT.
  • You will see 5 folders here under the name: MCT-XX (XX is for AU (Australia) , CA (Canada), GB (Great Britain), US (United State), and ZA (South Africa), you change XX into regional you want)
  • Now click on MCT-XX folder to get the theme you wanted(AU, CA and ZA regions all have the same themes though).
  • On theme folder, click it!
  • Now you need to double click on the XX.theme file to apply the theme to the Windows 7 desktop system.
  • Hide the Windows 7 System and Protected Operating System files.
  • Done! Now you have your new regional themes!

See you in the next post :d
