Since iPhone OS 3.0 has security vulnerability, Apple decided to substitute it with the new version which is iPhone OS 3.0.1, no major changes has been made up for this version, it’s only concern on fixing the SMS vulnerability found in iPhone 3.0. the vulnerability gives the wide open door for hackers to take control over iPhone with just a simple SMS.
iPhone security experts, Collin Mulliner and Charlie Miller, showed their audience in Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas. They could easily hijack and take full control on any iPhone including revealing private information, making phone calls, taking photos and so on.
In that case, any capable hackers can take control all iPhone on earth without you even has a shield to protect yourself. As a response of this security feedback, Apple released iPhone 3.0.1) to solve this SMS vulnerability from iPhone:
We appreciate the information provided to us about SMS vulnerabilities which affect several mobile phone platforms. This morning, less than 24 hours after a demonstration of this exploit, we’ve issued a free software update that eliminates the vulnerability from the iPhone. Contrary to what’s been reported, no one has been able to take control of the iPhone to gain access to personal information using this exploit.
Therefore any iPhone 3.0 users are recommended to upgrade to the latest version, iPhone 3.0.1. In case you have jailbreaken and unlocked iPhone and concern that upgrade to iPhone 3.0.1 will make you lose them, basically yes you will, but iPhone Dev team assures you that their ultrasn0w 0.9 and Redsn0w 0.8 still can be used to unlock and jailbreak iPhone OS 3.0.1.
There’s one thing you must know that Apple doesn’t provide download link for iPhone 3.0.1 in their site, therefore to download it, you must open your iTunes in your computer, you will be noticed about iPhone 3.0.1 download, then download it!
