Again! Another Android update, this time for Nexus ONe. The device is awarded with Android 2.2.2, the reason behind the update is same as the found in Nexus S which is to fix the SMS bug which caused troubles for some people. And the 2.2.2 is marked FRG83G with 550 KB in size.

To get the update you can go into two methods, firstly by OTA (Over The Air) to get the notification update on your device, to do so you manually type this line of code *#*#checkin#*#*

Or download the file directly from Google servers, afterward manually install it on your device, here are the guides:

• Download the update file from Google’s server: FRG83G-from-FRG83D
• Copy the file to the root directory (remember on root directly, Not inside any folder) of your microSD card and name it update.zip Tip: Be careful not to name it update.zip.zip
• Turn your device off.
• Hold down the VOLUME DOWN button and power it back on.
• Wait for your phone to load the skating Androids screen. Scroll down to recovery and press the POWER button.
• When you see the “/!\” symbol, press the POWER button and the VOLUME UP button at the same time. You should be presented with a menu and one of the options should be “apply sdcard:update.zip”.
• Use the trackball to navigate to “apply sdcard:update.zip” and select it.
• When you see “Install from sdcard complete”, select “reboot system now”.

That’s the whole steps to manually install Android 2.2.2 on the Nexus One.

Google has released the Android 2.3.2 for Google Nexus S, people has already got this Gingerbread latest version via OTA, which is 600kb and is named as Build GRH78C. And the version is designed to bring fix on SMS bug that is reported by users to send text messages to wrong contacts and also fixing the browser problems too (but this one has not been confirmed yet, only a couple of users report about this).

And if you are one of the unlucky guy who have not received the Android OTA update for your Nexus S. You can jump into the below instructions:

1. Firstly, you type or dial this line of code *#*#checkin#*#* to get the notification update.

2. Secondly, to install the latest Nexus S build GRH78C manually, here are the steps:

• Of course you need to download the update file, follow the Google’s server to download the zip file here: Android 2.3.2 Zip File
• And then copy the file to your phone’s internal storage (/sdcard). Tip: The Nexus S can flash any file so there is no need to rename it update.zip
• Turn off your phone.
• Hold down the VOLUME UP button and power it back on.
• Use the volume keys to navigate to recovery and press POWER to select it.
• When you see the “/!\” symbol, hold the POWER button and then press the VOLUME UP button.
• You should be presented with the Android system recovery menu. Select the option “apply update from /sdcard”
• Find the update file (GRH78C-from-GRH78) on your sdcard and then press the POWER button to flash it.
• Wait for the update to complete and then select “reboot system now”

Here is an instruction to unlock Nexus S with automatic scripts on LInux platform, previously we have posted about to unlock Nexus S Bootloader. The instruction will use script in order to make the process become automatic, however using this instruction you will lose OTA updates feature because the modified boot.img flashed in this script brings an MD5 mismatch.

How to do it
1. Download this file and rename the file to ‘nsrootscript.sh’
2. Mark it as executable either by navigating to it, right-clicking it, Properties > Permissions tab, and checking ‘Allow executing file as program’, or running this command:

chmod +x /path-to-file-here/nsrootscript.sh

3. Double-click it, then select ‘Run In Terminal’ or you can execute the following command:

./path-to-file-here/nsrootscript.sh

4. Do as the instructions found in the script say your Nexus S will be rooted in no time.

Nexus S just came out and still fresh new, people still talk about it over and over everyday. Now I have the feeling the name will be still the main topic to close this year. After the phone UK release delayed, now the new buzz on is the latest news of Google has released the GRH78 system OTA update to the Nexus S with 1.9MB only as the total file size, this one is a newer version of the previous system, GRH55.

The update bring some bugs found on the previous version plus your Nexus S will get the latest version of Maps.

Now the Nexus S owner who are not lucky enough to get the Android 2.3.1 update notification or at least not yet and impatient to wait, it’s recommend to use the checking method to get this OTA update, by manually type or dial this line of code *#*#checkin#*#*, hopefully you can get Android 2.3.1 notification update from the phone top screen.

Today is December, 20th right? This is supposed to be the day for people in the UK to go to Carphone Warehouse to grab the Google latest phone, Nexus S, since according the schedule the smartphone would hit UK today. But, things don’t run accordingly, due to the limited supplies of the handset have forced the UK independent mobile phone retailer to reschedule the date release to be December, 22th.

Because of the limited phone’s stock, only the “key” Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy stores have the stock, and for their subsidiary stores are set to take care of instant ship delivery.

But there are number of good news behind this two days delay, because the phone’s price is decreased to £429.99 (from its previous price £549.99). Nexus S will be available from free with a £30/month contract, or on PAYG for £429.99 plus £10 minimum top up with O2, Orange, Vodafone and T-Mobile. In addition, the Nexus S Smartphone from Google will be available SIM free for £429.99.

I guess a couple days delay are forgivable considering the compensations you’ll get.

Previously we got Android 2.3 Gingerbread is ported to Samsung Galaxy S which brings the latest Google Mobile OS version to the Galaxy S, now the latest Nexus S OS is ported to another Android device by another XDA member namely m-deejay. The guy has managed to ported Gingerbread to the HTC HD2. He uses the Nexus One AOSP source to do that.

Thus if you feel like trying to port the Gingerbread OS to your HTC HD2 device, you can try your luck by following the instruction below. But be sure you have knowledge on booting your Android to your HTC HD2, this is a requirement to flash this ROM.

Requirement:

The installation steps:

• Place “Android” folder on the root of your SD card
• Run “CLRCAD.exe” then “haret.exe”
• First boot will take up to 10-15 minutes

One of the XDA forum developers, namely Supercurio has managed to ported the latest Google‘s latest mobile operating system; Android 2.3 aka, Gingerbread into Samsung Galaxy S. He has launched the Youtube videos to show what he has made so far. But unfortunately some of the Nexus S features like GPS, Voice, Wifi, some Buttons and camera don’t work. But hey! This is tremendous to place the Gingerbread on Galaxy S.

It took only few hours after Google Nexus public availability on Best Buy site for Android enthusiast to unlock the phone bootloader, like they did to Nexus One. With unlocking the Nexus S bootloader you will gain access to install a custom recovery, this is a requirement if you are wanting to install custom ROMs.

And Phil Nickinson from Android Central has written an instruction to unlock the Nexus S bootloader that you can follow easily, just visit this page if you are interested in doing so.

The 2nd generation of Nexus One, Google Nexus S is already available at Best Buy site now and currently offered for for $529 for the unlocked version without contract agreement or grab it with only $199.99 but signing a 2-year contract via T-Mobile. Thus if you feel like purchasing a smartphone which is powered with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) platform, now it’s the time.

Nexus S is the result of partnership between Google and Samsung, as the manufacturer. Therefore, it’s not so surprising if some people regard the phone as a refreshed model of the Samsung Galaxy S. But who cares, as long it’s working as it’s advertised, right? You can directly visit Best Buy site to purchase Nexus S.
