Since the huge success of Digg, people start to emulate the social news site by making their own, people call it, Digg clone script. You probably ever heard about Pligg or Drigg as places to bookmark and share what you’ve found on the net. In overall they have similar functionality with Digg.
But on the net, they are not alone, many news submitter and voter scripts were created and used widely now! In this post I will not reveal all of them, only some who still being supported by the developers and plus giving you a short description of each script to help you decide which Digg Clone serves your need most!
1. PHPdug

PHPdug is a good Digg clone script, constantly updated and improved by the developer, also fast. The best thing it’s 100% script
2. Hotaru CMS

Another open source framework to build a Digg like site is Hotaru CMS. Themes and plugins are available to be installed to increase your social networking voter site performance and Hotaru CMS also is known to be Pligg’s fork
3. Dugg Plaza

If you want to have Digg-Like site using Joomla, this is it, use Dugg Plazza, but it’s not free, you need to pay for membership to get the template and the extension to create the site
4. Pligg

Pligg is awesome and supported well, the problem is it lacks of protections against spammer, I have one Pligg site and unhappy about the number of spams auto-submission that is growing each time I visit the site but Pligg is a good choice if only the developer get rid off this problem
5. Drigg

Drigg is lot better in dealing with spammers, since the CMS is not included in auto-submission scripts like Bookmarking Demon and the kind, but the problem there is no other Drigg theme which is shared for free nor the premium one in the net, the only theme you have it’s the official theme or else you make your own Drigg theme
See you in the next post!
thanks for the list, thats really cool and nice of you
But how much does Digg really affect the smaller, less followed websites? I mean, sure it would be great to get on the front page of Digg, but that’s like winning the lottery.
Does it really make that much sense to dedicate so much time and resources to Digg when it won’t generate that much traffic to non-tech sites?
The post is about telling people to create Digg-like site using the above scripts, so they can have their own Digg, without needing to dedicate to the real Digg and personally I think Digg is not worth
I find the whole social networking/social bookmarking thing a bit puzzling. I know its hugely popular but I don’t really get it. Maybe one day we will all have own own social site and spend all day building networks and never actually have to speak to another human ever again. My 15 year old daughter is almost at that stage already.
