I think the reason is Haiti, Chile and Hawaii are places near the sea. Haiti is in an island within the Caribbean sea while Chile and Hawaii within the Pacific Ocean. As we know in geo class, places within the so called Pacific ring of fire are likely to experience earthquakes, tsunamis, etc. If a place within it is affected, the nearby places are also likely to experience it too.
